I just want to say a huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has rushed out and bought themselves a copy of The Personal Shopper!

It has gone straight into the paperback fiction bestsellers chart at no 16, which is just fantastic! (Thomas has promised to let me buy him dinner at Glasgow’s ‘no.16’ restaurant to celebrate).

I feel so proud. It’s a bit like watching your child wobble up to the stage at the end of term to collect a prize.

Thank you so much for the many kind comments as well, including:

‘Much better than your last one,’ my Mum.

‘Yes, I really should get round to reading one of your books some day,’ my Dad.

I am gutted that I’ve not been in London lately to see the enormous pink posters on the Underground! I have always wanted posters on the Underground! I have always looked at other authors’ posters on the Underground and thought… one day! And it has happened!

OK, will have to stop now, am sounding like some demented teenaged fan of myself.

Anyway, it’s all highly unglamorous at home. We are teetering on the verge of leaving for our hols, which means frenzy of laundry, organisational chaos… ‘has anyone seen the charger for the 23 really important gadgets I absolutely must take with me?’ etc.

My children have picked this exact moment in time to contract some sort of vomiting virus.

They are quite fascinated to discover that Sam pukes in orange, while Claudie (of course) pukes in pink.
